Update on Brooke

We haven't seen a dramatic improvement in Brooke. Saturday & Sunday she had a good appetite and was eating, drinking, urinating well. She was able to be only on 3/4 of a liter of Oxygen. Monday was a little rough. She decided she didn't want to drink or eat and was bumped up to 1 liter of Oxygen. Her IV infiltrated and caused her hand to swell up 2 times its size! Monday night was difficult. She wasn't comfortable, had a fever and was bumped up to 2 liters of Oxygen. Luke and I were very worried about our precious angel!
We're not happy with the level of care she's receiving at Texas Children's. There's is an apparent shortage of nurses and doctors. We had a long talk with the head of pediatrics this morning. He feels that Brooke definitely has Atelectasis, but isn't so sure she has pneumonia. He took a look at her old heart echo and read the notes from her Cardio and the risk of the bacteria going into her heart is very minimal (WHEW!). They're treating it as if she does have bacterial pneumonia with the antibiotics. She definitely has a virus, most likely the same one that Caden, Luke and I have. It just effected each twin differently. They are just keeping her to administer the antibiotics and because she is on Oxygen. It's our understanding that once she gets off Oxygen, she can be released. That may be a while. Brooke doesn't like the tube up her nose, but apparently feels better with Oxygen. The most difficult time is when she's first falling asleep. She de-stats and her machines start going off. I really feel like she has sleep apnea, which is very common in children with Down Syndrome. The doctor also said that children with Down Syndrome have a very difficult time coming off Oxygen at her age. They don't know why, they just do. Typicall it takes them 4-10 days to get off! YIKES! We want to go home now!
Tonight we were able to take her for a wagon ride around the hospital. She and Daddy walked me to my car (I'm at my parent's house to visit Caden) and she started waving "bye bye" when she saw the car. She's very ready to go home. Please keep Brooke in your prayers!
